Batman Beyond, as we all obviously know but I’m going to explain anyway, takes place in the future. Bruce Wayne’s old. Too old to be Batman anymore.

In comes Terry McGinnis. A young punk. But when he’s father is murdered, he discovers Batman and yadda yadda, new future Batman.

Now, onto Return of The Joker. I will try and keep this spoiler free, even though the movie’s a few years old by now.

Joker’s back, somehow. Batman has to stop him. This might be the most personal the Joker has ever gotten in the animated continuity.

And the uncut PG-13 version is surprisingly adult and disturbing. At several points in the great, great flashbacks it’s quite dark.

Really, it’s just excellent. It might not be Mask of The Phantasm, which I still consider the finest Batman movie so far, better even then The Dark Knight, but wow, is it great.

Plenty of of fanboys are anticipating the new Justice League DVD “Crisis on Two Earths,” which premieres on Feb. 23, but that disc will also give birth to a new DC must-see home movie when the Dark Knight saga “Batman: Under the Red Hood” launches one of its first promos.
Written by Judd Winick and based on his 2005 Batman comics story line, it’s Batman versus another vigilante, Red Hood, who doesn’t mind cleaning up Gotham by leaving dead bodies in his wake. Animated guru Bruce Timm exec produces this pretty violent look into crime on the streets, and it’s directed by “Superman Doomsday” co-director Brandon Vietti, with a cavalcade of stars as voice talent. It all starts with Bruce Greenwood (“Star Trek”) as Batman, then continues with”Supernatural” star Jensen Ackles as Red Hood, Neil Patrick Harris (“How I Met Your Mother”) as Nightwing, John DiMaggio (“Futurama”) as the Joker and Jason Isaacs (theHarry Potter films) as Ra’s Al Ghul.This was one of the most popular story lines to come out of Batman in recent history. I’ll be honest, I don’t remember the storyline too much. So I’ll reread it. Like I said, an interesting cast.

So, that was fairly awesome. Dwayne McDuffie is a great writer. It doesn’t feature Batman too much, but is a lot of fun.

I won’t go into it too much, since it hasn’t been officially released yet, but I highly recommend it!

Superman/Batman: Pubic Enemies is the latest DC Universe animated movie. I won’t write a long review, since I’m technically on vacation.

It’s fun. I mean, it won’t win any awards, but it’s fun. It’s a bit on the short side though, at only 67 minutes. There’s also a lot that don’t make sense. But hey, it’s based on a Jeph Loeb comic.

But it also has a giant Composite Superman/Batman robot, so it all balances out.

If you don’t already own the individual sets, I highly recommend this set.

In Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths, a “good” Lex Luthor arrives
from an alternate universe to recruit the Justice League to help save
his Earth from the Crime Syndicate, a gang of villainous characters
with virtually identical super powers to the Justice League. What
ensues is the ultimate battle of good versus evil in a war that
threatens both planets and, through a diabolical plan launched by
Owlman, puts the balance of all existence in peril.

All-star voice cast led by Mark Harmon (NCIS) as Superman, James Woods
(Ghosts of Mississippi) as Owlman, Chris Noth (Sex and the City, Law &
Order) as Lex Luthor, William Baldwin (Dirty Sexy Money) as Batman,
Gina Torres (Serenity, Firefly) as Super Woman and Bruce Davison
(X-Men) as the President.

Attached are a few images … one is of Owlman and the other is of
the Justice League arriving for battle along with the “good” Lex
Luthor.

Hopefully based loosely on Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely’s JLA Earth 2 graphic novel.

Let’s go.

• Have I Got A Story For You. Nicely animated. The thing is, we’ve seen this before, in the Batman TAS episode Legends of The Dark Knight. Still, a nice opener.
• Crossfire. Not my favourite art style. But a nicely written segment by Greg Rucka, about two cops caught in a gang shoot out, with Batman coming to the rescue. Not bad.
• Field Test. Hmm. My problem here is, Batman tests a device that deflects bullets. I don’t see Batman ever trying such a device. Probably the weakest so far, but nicely animated.
• In Darkness Dwells. Written by Goyer and featuring Scarecrow and Killer Croc, it’s again nice, but nothing special.
• Working Through The Pain. By Azz. It’s pretty great, actually. There’s a great moment at the end I won’t spoil (Unless you ask me to), and it looks amazing. Probably my favourite of the bunch.
• Deadshot. The mobster bosses from Crossfire and Field Test hire Deadshot to take out The Batman. Nicely animated, with some cool shots of Deadshot taking out some targets. Not bad.

So there we are. All in all, a nice little package.
