First appearance of Edgar and Mackenzie (before Mackenzie became a pneumatic cyborg).
Edgar actually started as just “Me”, Ed Contradictory, in the past. This made turing in him into a separate character a bit of a challenge, particularly when we both had to appear in the same strip, because, mustaches aside, we looked exactly the same. But giving him a new chin, better hair, and round sun-shaded bi-oculars eventually fixed the problem.
I was just trying to think of the most unsubtle thing I could. And it was a panda bear throwing up on everything. Including the sun.
So… he’s too big and he doesn’t quite look like himself yet, but Pinder finally showed up in this strip.
I really want to come back and revisit this concept some day. Do the “Hi & Lois,” the “Apartment 3-G,” and the “Hagar the Horrible.”
While his nose still has too much of a snout here (which a bear should have, but Pinder doesn’t), Pinder’s personality really started to come together with this strip. This one and “Tiny Doors” really told me everything about who Pinder was and how I needed to write him.
