First appearance of Edgar and Mackenzie (before Mackenzie became a pneumatic cyborg).
Edgar actually started as just “Me”, Ed Contradictory, in the past. This made turing in him into a separate character a bit of a challenge, particularly when we both had to appear in the same strip, because, mustaches aside, we looked exactly the same. But giving him a new chin, better hair, and round sun-shaded bi-oculars eventually fixed the problem.

The first ever mention of The Rules of Gentlemanly Discourse, a guidebook or sorts for 19th Century gentleman scientists.

So, I had designed this robot character months ago and didn’t know what to do with him.
Originally, I was going to have Edgar die in the duel, but he was too interesting a character as is. Mackenzie…not so much. So I figured turning him into a cyborg/robot/automaton was a step up.
Also, I lied in the title bar. The storyline went on for another month (I ended up liking Santa Gus more than I thought I would).

My significant other hates the way I draw her in the strip. Which, admittedly, is pretty poorly. This lead to a storyline later where Ed Contradictory is outed for not being able to draw women.
